Equinor and BP’s joint venture, Empire Offshore Wind, has awarded a contract to DEME Offshore US for the transportation and installation of inter-array cables for the Empire Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind farms. The cables, which have a total length of over 350 km, will be used to help meet New York State’s ambitious clean energy and climate goals. DEME Offshore US will be responsible for transporting and installing the cables, with the installation being carried out by a cable installation vessel in two campaigns.
The state-of-the-art Living Stone vessel will be joined by the Viking Neptun in Q1 2023. This contract not only confirms DEME Offshore US’s cable installation capabilities and leading position in the market, but also highlights the company’s continued expansion in the US through its office in Boston and commitment to the future growth of the US offshore wind market. Once completed, the Empire Wind 1 and 2 projects will have a combined installed capacity of more than 2 GW, enough to power over 1 million homes in New York.
